Contrasting patterned Copper and Sterling Silver Mokume metal set with two 4mm deep blue AA grade Lapis Lazuli gems are paired with textured and granulated Argentium Silver in these eye-catching earrings. Mokume is made by a labor-intensive process much like ancient Japanese swords. Several layers of copper and silver are bonded to each other by a technique called eutectic fusion. The sheets of metal must be very clean and are then clamped together and held under pressure while being heated in a kiln. The combination of heat and pressure causes the metal layers to become permanently bonded. The mokume is then passed through a rolling mill or hammered then folded and the eutectic bonding process repeated. After many layers of alternating metal are formed into a single metal billet it is carved into and rolled flat again to reveal the pattern. Much like the rings in a tree show when wood is cut. Each piece of mokume is unique in pattern making these earrings truly one of a kind. Handmade Sterling Silver ear wires earrings measure approx. 1" x 1"
