Sterling Silver and Mokume Garnet Earrings
Contrasting patterned Copper and Sterling Silver Mokume metal set with two sparkling red Garnets are paired with textured and granulated Argentium Silver in these eye catching earrings. Mokume is made by a labor intensive process much like ancient Japanese swords. Several layers of copper and silver are bonded to each other by a technique called eutectic fusion. The sheets of metal must be very clean and are then clamped together and held under pressure while being heated in a kiln. The combination of heat and pressure causes the metal layers to become permanently bonded. The mokume is then passed through a rolling mill or hammered then folded and the heat and eutectic bonding process repeated. After many layers of alternating metal are formed into a single metal billet it is carved into and rolled flat again to reveal the pattern. Much like the rings in a tree show when wood is cut. Each piece of mokume is unique in pattern making these earrings truly one of a kind. Handmade Sterling Silver earwires earrings measure approx. 1" 1/4 x 5/8"
